Valtellina for Families
29 March 2016
Valtellina offers plenty of opportunities to spend an incredible vacation with the whole family. Whether it’s relaxing or working up a sweat, you’ll find something here for every member of the family to enjoy.
If it’s adrenaline you’re after, water sports in Valtellina are the thing for you. From rafting to canoeing, hydrospeed to canyoning, even the little ones will have a blast on the Adda River. If you’re looking for something a bit more special, be sure to check out the zip-lines to feel the thrill of soaring through the air among the gorgeous natural landscapes. The line connects Albaredo per San Marco and Bema and is completely safe. So kick off and get an eye-full as you glide through the stunning area.
There are also many locations to enjoy a bit of mountain biking here: Livigno, Bormio, Tirano, Valdidentro, Valdisotto, the list goes on and on. For those looking to keep it calmer, cycle paths run throughout the territory and offer a great way to see the area.
Take a hike through the woods, meadows and up to the peaks, where you can stay in one of the over 60 lodges dotting the hills and mountains of Valtellina. Many can be reached with a simple hike, and are accessible even by children.
With so much natural life here, there are also many opportunities to learn about the local agriculture, animals, and artisan craftsmanship. Workshops are set up for kids to learn all about this extraordinary area.
A spin in the National Stelvio Park means you can catch, deer, goats, ibex, and foxes – an adventure for the whole family. Other nature reserves and natural parks include: The Orobie Valtellinesi Park, Alpine Fauna Eco-Observatory, and the Pian Gembro Nature Reserve.
For a day of pure relax, there’s nothing like the Spas of Bormio… While parents relax in the thermal turkish baths, the little ones can play around in the water park with slides!
Don’t miss the chance to take a spin on the snow, whether in the winter or summer, there are always a wide variety of activities to be experienced. One of our favorites is a local specialty – sled dog riding – something the whole family will love! With Alaskan Huskies, you’ll explore the forests of the Valtellina for a once in a lifetime experience.
When it’s all said and done, don’t forget to enjoy the traditional cuisine of Valtellina, and reward yourselves with the Bitto cheese, DOC and DOCG wines, the delicate Bresaola, honeys, and more. A nice plate of Pizzoccheri in Teglio is the perfect way to get in the mood here in Valtellina!
