The Strada del Vino and the Via dei Terrazzamenti

24 March 2016

A charming road perfect for biking or a simple stroll, the Via dei Terrazzamenti connects Morbegno and Tirano at an altitude of 300 to 700 meters. With over 40 rest areas, it’s a great idea for those serious about sports and those looking to enjoy the scenery. The road is characterized by terraced vineyards and a strong sense of cultural heritage. The Via dei Terrazzamenti connects the Strade dei Vini of Valtellina, a series of roads that take their names from their respective harvests: Maroggia, Sassella, Grumello, Inferno, and Valgella.

Maroggia Road

Halfway between Morbegno and Sondrio, among the groves of 700 year old chestnut trees, this scenic route passes the extraordinary landscapes of the Val Masino and Berbenno, through the zone producing the Valtellina Superiore Maroggia DOCG.

Sassella Road

An ancient sanctuary, a flower covered valley, a terraced mountain, and a soaring ridges. The Sassella Road offers vineyards, ancient valley and unforgettable scenery. The production zone of the Valtellina Superiore Sassella DOCG is to the west of Sondrio, near Castione Andevenno.

Grumello Road

From the old quarter of Sondrio, towards the Castel Masegra, the Valmalenco, and the imposing peaks of the Bernina that then fold towards the sunny Dossi Salati and the Castello Grumello and the ordered rows of Nebbiolo.

Inferno Road

Small terraces perched on the cliffs between the rocks and the castles. Grand sprawls cultivated with Nebbiolo on the backside of the mountain. Incredible areas where the valtellina Superiore Inferno DOCG is produced.

Valgella Road

On the hunt for Valtellina Superiore Valhalla DOCG between ancient rock drawings, fields of wheat, and noble palaces, through the most vast and eastern of the five Valtellina Superiore zones.
