The Small, Sleepy Town of Sabbioneta

The Small, Sleepy Town of Sabbioneta

17 April 2016

It’s the third and final day of the #inLombardia365 tour in Mantua and our bloggers and instagramers are in for a treat. We’re in Sabbioneta, a UNESCO World Heritage Site along with Mantua that is a definite must while in the area. This small, sleepy town hides some of the most incredible secrets- an “ideal city”, it was designed to perfectly fit the needs of inhabitants and was a major powerhouse after its construction in the late 16th century. Founded by Vespasiano I Gonzaga (yes, those Gonzaga’s), the city was constructed according to the Renaissance principles of an ideal city and you can find testaments to a strong cultural heritage in the countless monuments here. Just take Teatro all’Antica, one of the most extraordinary testaments of culture and refinement in the now quiet town you simply must visit.
