Stelvio Pass – Adventure at High Altitude
7 July 2016
The “ghiacciaio dello Stelvio” is the largest ski area in the Alps where you can still hit the slopes in the Summer. That means the surrounding landscapes make for a special atmosphere with the snowy peaks and the numerous hotels, lodges, and ski schools.
The Stelvio Pass sits at an altitude of 2,758 meters and is the second highest mountain pass in Europe. Here you’ll enjoy some serious cycling along the winding roads, excursions into the National Park, and paths that highlight the history in the area during the First World War. In fact, the road was inserted into the “Giro d’Italia” in 1953 and has since hosted some of the most epic moments in cycling history!
While sports are a major attraction here, there’s always time to relax, and there are plenty of opportunities to soak in the atmosphere and some peace and quiet at high altitude. From the small churches to the spas, every angle of these mountains offers an escape into tradition and nature.
