Livigno – Sport, Fun and Relaxation
14 July 2016
Summer in Livigno is colored with the yellow of the sun, the blue of sky and lake and the green of the meadows. Undisputed home to incredible outdoor activities on both a national and international level, Livigno has cut out a role as an active destination for sport lovers. From MTB to road cycling, from trail running to skyrunning, from climbing to water sports, from golf to trekking, right down to horse-riding, there’s never a dull moment in Livigno. You can practice your favorite sport every day – also with professional instructors and guides – in an environment of absolutely superb landscapes, between the Stelvio and Swiss National Parks.
The Aquagranda Active You sports center, the highest in Europe, gives professional athletes and amateurs the chance to train in the 25 meter pool, in the gym with its avant-garde equipment and in the numerous course rooms. For relaxation there’s a wellness area with thermarium, saunas, Turkish baths, massage rooms and a saline pool.
It’s a popular sport center where athletes have the opportunity to train at high altitude while at the same time enjoying a welcoming and comfortable environment. The fun areas with slides and water games are always appreciated, and will be extended for summer 2016 with external slides.
The bar-bistro offers healthy, organically grown products, and there are also services closely connected with psycho-physical wellbeing such as osteopath, physiotherapist, beautician and hairdresser.
And after so much sports activity, excursions and walks, it’s time to have fun with the summer parties, which begin on 16th July with the White Night when Livigno by night becomes non-stop music, games, dancing, colors, perfumes and plenty of shopping. Everything open, everything lit up till the early hours of the morning. On 28th July, the Livigno Costume Festival is an appointment with the town’s traditions, history and culture relived in a procession of ancient crafts, families of long ago, animals, stories that are handed down. On the night of St Lawrence, 10th August, all the lights are switched off for the Black Night, the most evocative event in the locality. It’s a great celebration on the streets of Livigno with itinerant shows, street artists and music, and it all takes place in the dark because on that night the only light comes from the moon, the stars and the flames of torches. It’s a way to make artistic moments even more evocative but also to give an eco-sustainable meaning to this joyful event. The highpoint of the evening comes at midnight with a gigantic bonfire and a shower of falling stars.
On Ferragosto (15th August, Feast of the Assumption) the day is concluded with a great firework display that lights up the Livigno sky with a myriad of lights and colours. And on 26th August the star of the evening will be snow! The streets of the centre will be covered with snow and turned into a cross-country skiing track for the 36th Contrade Trophy event in which the contrade (districts) of Livigno compete, all wearing period costumes and vintage skis. The snow employed has been preserved since winter by means of a layer of sawdust and a geothermic tarpaulin to prevent melting. On 8th September, the feast of patron St Mary of the Nativity, with a procession bearing the standard dedicated to the Virgin. The programme also includes games and food & wine tasting. From 15th to 18th September, the Alpen Fest is dedicated to agricultural workers and the moving of animals to new pastures. Here you will see breeders and their herds, the animals embellished with precious bells and garlands of flowers. At the same time there is also the Livigno Cheese Exhibition. On 21st September, the annual Agricultural Fair is held, with assignment of titles for the various categories of breeding animals.
