#il365 – Gulf of Poets
2 November 2016
A name that makes you dream of a very beautiful land that has bewitched poets, painters and writers from all over the world.
The Gulf of Poets goes from Porto Venere to Lerici, two splendid places on the Eastern Riviera; halfway along there is La Spezia, the heart of the Gulf. In the landscape seaside villages, churches and medieval castles follow one another on the sea, sandy beaches and pastel coloured houses. A beloved land described by artists and poets. Here two important sporting events are held: the Gulf Cup, a rowing competition between the 13 villages on the Gulf, and the Byron Cup for swimming in the open sea. Among the most beautiful events on September 13th there is the Feast of San Venerio, the patron saint of the Gulf.
