A Saturday Morning Tour
23 April 2016
From the 15-17th of April, Mantua received a special group of 11 bloggers and photographers from all over the world. Visiting the UNESCO Site of Mantua, the 2016 Italian Capital of Culture, and Sabbioneta, they were treated to some incredible moments during the #inLombardia365 tour and we here in Mantua were excited to see the experience through their eyes!
It’s always a great opportunity for us when such special guests come to visit us, and this time we sent the group out with Marta Petruzzella of the “Rigoletto” Tour Guide Association. At 9 in the morning, Marta met with the explorers to give them an insight to various palaces and monuments, like the San Giorgio Castle and the Camera degli Sposi (a true masterpiece by Andrea Mantegna). Continuing on and with cameras in hand, the group saw the courtyards of the Gonzaga family, tapestries based on designs of Raffaello, the halls of Pisanello, canvases by Peter Paul Rubens, extraordinary galleries, and restricted gardens.
Following the “Path of the Prince”, Marta led them to the house of the painter Andrea Mantegna before heading on to Palazzo Te, one of the most elegant and fascinating locations in the city. Here they saw the many halls frescoed by Giulio Romano, Raffaello’s pupil. After a thorough tour through the enchanting palace, everyone’s appetite had gotten the best of them, and off they went to dine on some of the Mantuan specialties!
